French Ironstone Salad Plate "Aubépines" by Gien
Step into the 19th-century splendor with our exquisite French 'Terre de Fer' salad plate (ironstone) by Gien. The plate is a rare model in perfect condition, aside from its patina and craquelure, it has a glaze defect resulting in a beige discoloration at the top right of the design. No chips or cracks.
Ironstone tableware emerged in France around 1770, made from natural clay, sand, and minerals. Unlike porcelain, ironstone is not translucent and can have a rough or smooth surface. The term peaked around 1900 with manufacturers like Faïenceries du Moulin des Loups, Saint-Amand, Lunéville, and others, producing sets stamped with 'Terre de fer' for authenticity.
Use: Ironstone dinnerware is generally dishwasher safe, but a delicate cycle is recommended. Avoid abrasive cleaners to maintain their surface. While durable, handle with care to prevent breakage.
Condition: Our products are generally in good rustic and vintage condition, but may exhibit minor flaws due to their age. Feel free to request additional photos or a video for a closer examination.
